  • 1.5 lb beef stewing steak, diced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 tbsp plain flour
  • 1 pint ale (dark beer)
  • 1 cup beef stock
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves
  • 1 sheet puff pastry
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten (for glaze)
