Ingredients

  • 2 lb beef stew meat, cut into 1.5-inch cubes
  • 1 lb pearl onions, peeled
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/2 tsp allspice
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

    Sear the seasoned beef in olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat until browned on all sides, then set aside.

    Sauté the garlic, deglaze with red wine, add tomatoes, tomato paste, spices, return the beef, then cover and simmer for 2 hours.
